CIBSE TM65 Verified data to be made available on eTool

CIBSE and Cerclos have announced a new partnership that will make independently verified embodied carbon data more accessible to building services professionals. The partnership will see CIBSE TM65 Verified data integrated into eTool's whole-life carbon assessment software.

Accurate embodied carbon data for building services products can be difficult to obtain. Many mechanical, electrical and plumbing (MEP) products do not have Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs), while self-declared figures can vary inequality and reliability, making it challenging for designers and specifiers to make informed decisions.

CIBSE Certification's Embodied Carbon Verification (ECV) scheme helps address this challenge by providing independently assessed embodied carbon data using the CIBSE TM65 methodology. Verified values are certified for three years, with annual audits to maintain confidence in the data.

As part of the partnership, CIBSE TM65 Verified data will be made available directly within eTool via an application programming interface (API). Once the integration is live, designers will be able to access verified embodied carbon figures for certified MEP products without having to source, check or manually input the information.

Chris de Josselin, Chief Executive Officer at Cerclos, commented:
“Building services can make up a significant share of a project’s embodied carbon, but reliable product-level data has been hard to find. CIBSE’s Embodied Carbon Verification is a game changer for designers working on complex, high-performance buildings. Putting independently verified CIBSE TM65 data directly into eTool means designers can model real MEP products with confidence, compare options on a like-for-like basis and make decisions that deliver the greatest carbon savings.”

The integration also marks an important step forward in how CIBSE makes its technical data available to the wider industry.

Ben Arnold, Software Product Manager at CIBSE, commented:
"This partnership marks an important milestone for CIBSE, as we make independently verified data available through an API for the first time. CIBSE TM65 Verified data becoming available directly within eTool will make it easier for designers to access reliable embodied carbon information, while helping manufacturers gain greater value from the ECV scheme.”

What does this mean for manufacturers and designers?

For manufacturers, products certified through CIBSE's ECV scheme will be able to benefit from greater exposure within the software platforms used by engineers and designers to undertake whole-life carbon assessments, demonstrating the value of getting verified.

For designers and specifiers, the integration will make it easier to identify and use reliable embodied carbon data for real MEP products within their existing assessment workflows, supporting more informed decisions about product selection and whole-life carbon performance.

The partnership represents a further step towards improving the availability, transparency and practical application of verified embodied carbon data across the built environment.
