Embodied Carbon Verification (ECV) Scheme
The ECV scheme is an initiative developed in consultation with CIBSE (Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers) to advance environmentally friendly practices within the built environment. It covers MEP products used for heating, cooling, ventilation, lighting, electrical and public health but does not include non-standard equipment such as photovoltaics.
The TM65 publication and methodology is available from CIBSE https://www.cibse.org/tm65 and manufacturers of MEP products can use the tools to undertake self assessments of their products.
The ECV scheme launched in 2024 with the support of manufacturers across a range of products, and with over 12 months of feedback incorporated meets manufacturers needs by:
- adding an additional layer of credibility to their CIBSE TM65 calculations.
- evidence that their claims are independently verified by an industry recognised Certification Body.
It helps consultants by providing assurance that the embodied carbon claims are based on solid evidence and that any changes to the product over time are reflected in the certified values.
Early adopters and supporters of the scheme include:
- Crane Fluid Systems UK
- Mitsubishi Electric
- Fujitsu General Air Conditioning
- Grundfos Water Treatment
- S & P Ventiliation Systems
To obtain a quotation for ECV certification please submit the following to CCLECV@cibse.org
- a description of your product family, quantities, and product variations
- a completed CIBSE TM65 manufacturers form with calculations
Certification is confidential and organisations are only identified with their agreement. A register of ECV certified MEP products is under development to meet global demand from consultants and users of verified carbon data.
